• Islington’s new council homes transform a derelict space and win national housing design award
  Homes for Islington (HFI) working with Islington Council have won a prestigious National Housing Design award for their new council housing in Armour Close. The homes were nominated alongside some of the best design projects in the country.

• A monster day out »
  Homes for Islington residents had a monster day out at their fun day on the Kings Square estate. Nearly 300 residents and the mayor turned out to join in the fun put on by staff from Homes for Islington’s Old Street office. A barbeque with food provided by the construction firm Mulalleys gave the crowds energy to take part in an Arsenal Positive Futures kickabout area, gladiator fighting sticks and a couple of obligatory bouncy castles. For those wanting a more sedate experience, there were stands to watch wool being spun or to make clay bowls and facepainting. The event concluded with a raffle full of impressive prizes donated by Kier, Arsenal and local establishments – Fish Central and trendy Look Mum No Hands!

  Newton Charles, the caretaker for Wedmore Estate in Holloway, has been chosen by residents as Homes for Islington (HFI)’s caretaker of the year – an award presented every year to the caretaker who is judged to have provided the best service.

• Abseiling to insulate Islington flats »
  There have been some strange sights on estates over the past couple of months – teams of abseilers. This isn’t the latest urban sports craze but Homes for Islington’s innovative way of insulating homes across the borough. Since January, Homes for Islington has insulated nearly 4,000 homes by filling in cavity walls.
