Federation of Islington's
Tenants' Associations
The Federation of Islington Tenants Associations (FITA, pronounced
'fighter') is an independent, borough-wide organisation run by council
tenants through their TRAs. FITA’s aims are to unify and strengthen
the tenant movement in Islington and to promote and represent their
interests to central and local government, other organisations in
London and nationally. Established TRAs may affiliate to FITA if they
so wish. FITA is also the designated body to support the development
of new TRAs.

Home Ownership
Home Ownership is the part of Islington Housing Services
that deals with matters of concern to leaseholders who have purchased
former council properties from Islington Council. Home Ownership
also deals with Right to Buy for existing Islington Council tenants
who are interested in buying their council home:

Housing
Investigations
The Housing Investigation Team investigates all housing fraud. The
work of the section involves investigating and taking legal action
where necessary into allegations of subletting of council property,
where the tenant is not using their accommodation as their only and
principal home and is living somewhere else and where council housing
has been obtained by deception. We also investigate fraudulent applications
for housing, right to buy, mutual exchanges, assignments of tenancies
and successions of tenancies.
All reports of housing fraud can be made via the telephone hotline 24 hours a day on 020 7527 7432. Alternatively you can email us on housing.investigationsreportingline@homesforislington.org.uk All reports will be treated in the strictest confidence.

The local area housing office is responsible for formally recognising
and liasing with tenant and resident associations, working with tenant
management organisations and servicing the area housing panel. Area
housing staff will also take the lead role in respect of local tenant
participation initiatives.
