Access to Sports
The Access to Sports Project is a community led organisation that provides sports programmes across the London boroughs of Islington, Hackney and Haringey.
The sports activities and tournaments are provided for young people between the ages of 6 and 21 in a range of sports including Tennis, Badminton, Football, Athletics, Cricket and many more.
The main aims of the organisation are to:

Provide training, support and volunteer opportunities for local people.

Organise a range of sports activities for young people.

Provide support and assistance to local organisations interested in delivering sports.
The organisation also aims to:

Improve health through a range of sporting and physical activities.

Reduce crime by providing constructive and creative activities for young people who are involved or at risk of being involved in anti-social behaviour and crime.

Provide opportunities for people to participate within the community no matter if they are male or female, from minority ethnic backgrounds, if they have disabilities or if they are economically disadvantaged.

Develope young people by building self confidence, improving skills and learning abilities and working as part of a team all through the use of sports activities.

Build communities through shared activities.

Provide new opportunities for employment and delivery of vocational qualifications.
Access to Sports programmes
Multi Sports Holiday Sports Coaching Camps
The Access to Sports Project will be holding weekly sports coaching camps for young people aged 8-16. Sports on offer include Basketball, Football, Cricket, Tennis, Netball, Athletics, Roller Skating, Volleyball, Handball and Dance. The Sports Camps will run Monday-Thursday through the summer holidays and will be FREE of charge to Homes for Islington Young People! Call for Information and to book a place.
Islington Community Cup Football Competitions
Competitions are held throughout July and August. Open to Homes for Islington Teams. For young people (male and female) aged 11-16. Call to register.
Basketball Competitions
Basketball competitions are running through out the summer for young people aged 11-19. Call to register.
Regular coaching sessions
There are a range of weekly sports coaching sessions on offer for young people on HFI estates.
The Access to Sports Project: Club Sessions
Islington Borough Football Club
Islington borough football club are recruiting new players for the 2010-11 season. Call 020 7686 8810 to find out more information. Islington Borough FC was created four seasons ago to enable young people who had been engaged through Access to Sports and Islington Football Development Partnership via a number of different projects, to progress from youth football to adult football. Projects that players had progressed from included those that had been held on, or targeted at, Homes for Islington estates or residents. The club has grown in stature and reputation and has provided football and training opportunities. The club provides an important bridge for young people into affiliated football, many of whom are more used to playing football on the smaller estate pitches.
Islington Blazers Basketball Club
Islington Blazers basketball club are recruiting players for the 2010/11 season. Call for information on training times and venues.
Netball
Netball in partnership with Islington Netball Club
Roller Skating
The Access to Sports Project are catering to a revival in interest in Roller Skating with the offer of a number of Roller Skating programmes across Islington delivered in partnership with Homes for Islington. Roller Skating sessions are held at different venues across the borough. The next programme will be held over the Christmas holidays. Click on the link above for more information.
Sports Coaching Qualifications
Gain qualifications as a sport coach with HFI and The Access to Sports Project. Football, Volleyball, Netball, Basketball, Sports leadership, and Gym instructor courses are just a few of the coaching courses on offer. (FREE of Charge, subject to conditions) Please call for more information.
Street Dance
Access to Sports has teamed up with Catch 22 and the Andover Youth Club to provide a regular programme of street Dance. The Sessions which are held at the Andover Community Centre run every Friday from 6-7pm. The session is open to boys and girls aged 8-14 years old who want to learn new dance routines, to the latest music. Click on the link above for more information.

Six Acres football club are starting a new team for young people aged 16+ Call to join up!
Volleyball for Women aged 16 and above
There are exciting new opportunities for women aged 16 and above to get involved in Volleyball in Islington. The new weekly Volleyball coaching progamme is due to start soon at the Sobell Leisure Centre, delivered in partnership with Homes for Islington.
