Public access and participation at public Board meetings

What is Homes for Islington’s Board’s policy on public access and participation at its meetings?

  • Board meetings are open to the public.
  • The Board has adopted a scheme of exempt information in relation to confidential items meaning not all items will be discussed in public Meetings are publicised through HFI's website, by posters in area housing offices and in resident newsletters.
  • The agenda and non-exempt reports will be available 5 days in advance of the meeting. They will be posted on HFI's website and hard copies will be available to view upon request in the Area Housing offices.

Questions to the Board

  • Questions to ordinary meetings of the Board are accepted in writing from members of the public if received three working days in advance of the meeting. Anonymous questions will not be accepted.

  • The first 20 minutes of each ordinary Board meeting are reserved for questions from members of the public.
  • Questions from the public will only be dealt with at the Board meeting so long as they relate to the strategic and operational functions of the organisation.
  • Questions relating to individual cases will not be heard at the meeting but may be submitted in writing to the Governance Team for staff to investigate and respond to outside of the meeting.
  • The chair will read out a response to a question at the Board meeting. The response will be recorded in the minutes.
  • If a response is not possible at the meeting, a written response to the question will be made to the member of the public within 10 working days thereafter.
  • Subject to the Data Protection Act and on the request of the member of the public asking the question, a copy of the answer will be placed on the HFI website.
