Questions from the Public 28 June 2007

How many full HHSRS assessment inspections have been done since April 2006 when they come in through the 2004 Act?
To date no full HHSRS assessment inspections have been carried out by HFI or PFI partners. The HHSRS replaces the fitness standard and is primarily for use by Environmental Health Officers undertaking enforcement action against private landlords. Central Govt has advised that Local Housing Authorities inspect their own stock using an indicative method to spot potential hazards rather than using a full HHSRS assessment.

HFI have been working on developing an accurate means of collecting indicative information and undertook some trial surveys on void properties during 2006. This method was found to have some shortcomings and so a number of improvements have been made to our system. We are currently in the process of launching the revised process for inspection and collection of information.
