Safety Alert

January 2008

If you are concerned about your heating system, following the tragic death of Rhiana Hardie (a baby who died after being scalded by water from a faulty immersion heater) there are some simple ways to identify if a problem might exist.

For example:

1. There is an unexpected rise in the temperature of your hot water.
2. There is warm or hot water coming out of your cold taps.
3. You hear any unusual noises from your heating system including banging or bubbling.

If you experience any of these problems you should immediately turn off the immersion heater using the switch, which is located near the hot water cylinder in the airing cupboard.

You should also check to ensure the thermostat on your hot water cylinder is set to between 60 and 65 degrees.

If you are a tenant of the Council, you can report the fault to HFI Direct on: 0800 694 3344
