If you live in Islington we know it’s not easy to get on the property ladder, but there are options available that may make it easier.

Islington held the first Home Ownership Show to give residents an opportunity to find out about all the schemes on offer. HFI, local housing associations, solicitors and financial advisors were on hand to give advice and answer questions. Council tenants also had the opportunity to talk to HFI staff about a new affordable scheme called Social HomeBuy. This allows you to buy as little as 25% of your home on a part-rent, part-buy basis, with the option to increase this up to 100%. You could receive up to £4000 to help you cover the fees and costs of buying a home.

Among those who discussed housing options - including Social HomeBuy. Adam said: "I came to find out more about what my housing options are. I got some advice on how much I could raise on a mortgage and had a useful chat about the part-buy scheme."

Also at the Show were the Kahveci family of N1 - Mum, Isik Kahveci said:

"I spoke to the experts and they said I might be eligible to purchase up to a third of my two bedroomed flat. I'm definitely thinking about it."
