Giving carers a helping hand

Carers come from all walks of life and many of you will come in contact with them during your working day. We want to support carers where we can. We have a new emergency card scheme to give carers peace of mind should something happen to them.

Launched as part of Carers Week (9-16 June) the scheme makes sure that should something happen to them the person they care for will not be forgotten. The scheme is open to residents who provide unpaid care or support to someone aged 18.

When they register they will receive a credit card sized Carers Emergency Card with their name and reference number on it and a 24 hour contact number. Should something happen and someone finds the card, they call the 24 hour number and they will receive up to 72 hours of free emergency care.

If you know any carers who would benefit from this scheme or you want to know more about carers week contact the council’s Carers Officer on 020 7527 8154 or email carers@islington.gov.uk You can also log onto www.islington.gov.uk
