Celebrations as Elsie hits her century!

July 2008

Homes for Islington (HFI) helped one of their oldest tenants celebrate last week as she reached her 100th birthday.

Mrs Elsie Watling celebrated with her son and her daughter at her flat in Mildmay. HFI joined the celebration as HFI Vice-chair, Jessie White, dropped in to present her with a bouquet of flowers and a box of chocolates.

Mrs Watling has been a tenant at John Kennedy Court Estate since 1962. Born in Tottenham she moved to Islington during the First World War in 1916, aged 8. She is still an activity member of the community regularly attending bingo every week.

Jessie White, Vice-chair of HFI’s Board said: “It was great to be able to pop in and wish Mrs Watling a very happy birthday. I hope she had an enjoyable day and may I wish her many more to come!”
