New council housing for Islington

Introduction

Homes for Islington manage from inception to completion the delivery of Islington council’s programme of new build council homes. In addition, HFI oversees the delivery of development initiatives.

New houses, maisonettes and flats are proposed for development. Where possible these are larger family sized homes, as there is a high demand for this kind of family accommodation. They will help to relieve the borough’s overcrowded families and increase the number of family homes Islington Council can offer through HFI.

Who is developing the sites?
The homes being built will be on council owned land and will remain in council ownership. Homes for Islington will be managing this process on behalf of Islington Council as well as being responsible for the day-to-day management of the new homes. All new build contracts will be tendered through the HFI procurement process and a new Framework will be set up to select contractors for new build projects.

Standards
The new housing will be built to the Housing Corporation Design Quality Standards. The work will also meet the council’s sustainability standards as set out in the planning and policy guidance. The completed Boleyn Road development was designed to Code Level 4 for Sustainable Homes, and as such reducing the carbon-footprint for this scheme.

Funding the sites
The funding of Boleyn Road and Armour Close, plus the development on Clifton Court will be financed through Islington Council. In addition Islington will fund 50% of the costs for new development schemes, with the other 50% being funded from the Homes Communities Agency (HCA) grant.
