Islington Council solar panel programme

What is the Islington Solar Panel Programme?

Solar panels

Islington Council is carrying out a programme of solar panel installations on housing estates over the next few months which will produce cheaper, greener electricity.

Islington Council is partnering with Lakehouse to install and maintain solar photovoltaic (PV) panels on council owned roofs throughout Islington.
Lakehouse is a well established construction and maintenance provider in social housing, and public buildings.

There is no cost to Islington Council or our residents. Private investors are investing their own money in the solar panels and will receive payment from a Feed-in Tariff ( FIT) explained below).

Islington will receive a proportion of the FIT from Lakehouse, and the electricity generated by the panel will go to the communal areas of the building which will reduce electricity use from the national grid, resulting in savings.

The installation of solar panels will help Islington reach its challenging 40% carbon reduction target and income generated from the schemes will be used to tackle fuel poverty in the borough.
