Consultation & Involvement

Tenant and Resident Associations (TRA’s)

Why TRAs?

Homes for Islington (HFI) supports and encourages the development of tenants and residents associations (TRAs). There are approximately 60 associations in Islington, which are recognised by Homes for Islington and the council. The TRAs exist to:

  • Represent the views of council tenants and leaseholders
  • Provide community facilities and encourage community spirit
  • Campaign to improve housing services
  • Be consulted by Homes for Islington on improvement programmes and other major issues

TRAs are set up for a variety of reasons. Tenants and leaseholders may decide that they want a greater say in the way the housing service is run and a collective approach gives them a better chance of getting their view across. There may be a specific issue, such as estate security or major works, in which residents wish to be involved. People might also wish to organise activities like outings or events for children, which are not directly related to housing but which foster a community, spirit and enable residents to get to know one another.
