Out of Hours Team

Working in the Community - Junior Citizens – Understanding ASB!

HFI’s Out of Hours response team were invited to get involved with the Junior Citizen (JC) scheme in Islington. The JC scheme exists to give    10-11 year old pupils in Islington schools the opportunity to learn life skills to help keep them safe.

The event is in its 20th year and once again the ASB team had the opportunity to work with the programme which was held over one week in May 2011 offering 20 sessions each day, totalling over 460 pupils from 20 schools. The response team and up to nine other organisations including London Fire brigade, Dog Trust and Transport for London delivered their individual sessions with enthusiasm and energy encouraging team work and participation from the pupils.

The Out of Hours response team discussed issues such as graffiti, littering, causing a nuisance and responsible dog ownership and how all of these impact on the community where they live. Pupils shared their views on anti-social behaviour and fixed penalty notices around dog fouling. Each session finished with a quiz giving all pupils an opportunity to show their competitive spirit and team work.
